İTÜ Arı Teknokent was awarded first prize in the category of “Development zones of Mature Phase Technologies” by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology.

İTÜ Arı Teknokent was awarded first prize in the category of “Development zones of Mature Phase Technologies” by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology.

İTÜ Arı Teknokent, which has increased its competitiveness in the field of Turkey’s technology on a global scale, was awarded first prize in the category of “Development Zones of Mature Phase Technologies” at the 6th Technology Development Zones Summit.  Technology development zones, which were determined in 4 different categories that received awards were announced at the summit, which was held in Ankara.  İTÜ Arı Teknokent was selected as the Technology Development Zone with the highest performance amongst techno parks in the mature phase.  During the awards, in his speech, the Minister of Science Industry and Technology Faruk Özlü, mentioned that the Technology Development Zone in Turkey had reached 77, of which 56 were active and 21 under construction.  Özlü continued to say that they aimed to establish a Technology Development Zone in all of the 81 provinces and by announcing 8 additional Technology Research Zones they set a new record.  There are 5 thousand active companies in the current Technology Development Zones and 47,500 R&D personnel at our Techno Parks. While 28 thousand projects have been determined, studies are continuing on 8,500 projects.  3.4 billion dollars has been obtained as an export revenue through the projects produced by our Techno Parks.

Innovative ideas come to life at İTÜ

Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca stated that İTÜ is a university of R&D and entrepreneurship and that entrepreneurial spirit and innovative ideas come to life at Istanbul Technical University. Karaca quoted, “We are continuously producing new projects to stregthen the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, within the scope of our vision in which we will be celebrating our 250th year and our country’s 100th foundation in 2023. We are not only producing projects but we are pioneering in the development of entrepreneurial mindset and values. İTÜ ARI Teknokent, situated on 1 million 655 thousand m2 landscape with 10 buildings, scored more than 2,500 successful R&D projects, 148 of which are with patent and contributed to our country’s economy. With start-up companies under its roof, worldly renowned companies, scientists and young entrepreneurs, İTÜ Arı Teknokent put into practice a giant structure. This success will be awarded also in international arena.”

We are contributing to our country’s economic growth.

Kenan Çolpan, General Manager of İTÜ Arı Teknokent talked about the award given and stated that the ecosystem that ARI Teknokent created in order to fulfill the role of being a center for entrepreneurship and innovation is becoming even more strong. Çolpan quoted, “We are increasing the competitive power of our country at the global scale in the area of technology, with our structure composing of more than 270 technology firms, more than 7,000 personnel and more than 600 projects per year. In 2017, our R&D export marked 40 million USD. We are enlarging the İTÜ Seed Pre-Incubation Center, which has become the Europe’s 2nd and world’s 3rd incubation center. During the last 2 years, the investment of our start-ups reached 50 million TL. Our firms at İTÜ MAGNET Mature Phase Entrepreneurship Center achieved 20 million TL turnover, which has become a center of attraction of entrepreneurship ecosystem by contributing to the opening of new technologies to the world. With our INNOGATE program supported by İSTKA, we are helping national technology firms to carry on their success at the global market. We will continue on contributing to our country’s economic growth by working harder.”
